Steak and Bacon Pizza

Pizza - everyone loves it, and it's so easy to make at home.

We love making pizzas on weekends, making the base then loading up with whatever delicious ingredients happen to be in the refrigerator. This pizza is a simple combination of beef steak and bacon. What's more to love?

It's not only super simple to make your own pizza base, but also to make your own stuffed crust (like we have done here!). Just roll the base a little extra, spread a ring of mozzarella about 1 cm from the edge, and fold over to secure before putting on your toppings.

Okay, I will admit that I did overload a little on the meat in this one.. but whose going to complain about that?!

Steak and Bacon Pizza

Makes 1-2 pizzas

Pizza Base:

1/2 Cup lukewarm water
1 1/2 tsp dried active yeast
1 Cup plain or wholemeal flour (half and half works well too)
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbsp olive oil

Topping:

3 Tbsp tomato paste
1 Cup mozzarella cheese (or a combination of your favorite cheeses)
200 g beef steak, sliced
75 g bacon, sliced
1 red bell pepper, diced
1 onion, finely diced
1 Cup mushrooms, sliced
BBQ sauce

1. Combine the water and sugar in a small bowl. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and leave for about 15 minutes to activate the yeast.
2. Sift the flour and salt into a large bowl. Make a well in the centre and pour in the yeast mixture and the olive oil. Stir with a wooden spoon to combine.

3. Turn out onto a floured surface and knead a few times and shape into a ball. Return to the bowl, cover with cling film or a tea-towel. Set aside for a while, in a warm environment, until the dough has doubled in size. I usually do this a few hours in advance and just leave it.

4. Preheat oven to 200C (400F). Roll out on a floured surface to form a pizza base. Prick the base with a fork at a couple of different locations.

5. Spread the tomato paste over the base, spread the toppings evenly over the surface and finish with a swirl of BBQ sauce.

6. Place in the oven and cook for about 20 minutes, until toppings and base are cooked and the cheese has melted.
